What We Believe

Calvary Bible Church is a body of believers who strive to glorify God in everything we do.  We are a warm and friendly congregation that seeks to love our neighbors and each other in practical and tangible ways.

We believe:

I. The Bible is God's Word, that every word is inspired by God and is therefore without error, and true.  We also believe the Bible is fully sufficient for every believer and is the final authority for the believer's life, belief and practice on earth. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:3, 20)

II. There is but one God eternally existing in one essence yet three co-equal persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), known as the Trinity.  Each person of the Trinity has all the attributes of God. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 90:1-2; Matthew 28:19; Ephesians 4:4-6)

III. God the Father is an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love.  We believe that He created the world and concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through saving faith in Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1:1; John 3:16; Romans 1:7; 1 Peter 1:3)

IV. Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit.  He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed many miracles and taught the truths of God and revealed God to men.  We believe in His substitutionary and atoning death for mankind, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and His personal visible return to earth. (John 1:1-14; Matthew 1:18; Luke 1:26-38; 1 Timothy 2:5; 3:16)

V. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.  He is the agent of spiritual birth through His work of regenerating, indwelling, sealing, and baptizing the believer.  The Holy Spirit enables the spreading of God's Word in testimony, preaching, and practical living.  Spiritual obedience will give fruit to a spiritually powerful life of the characteristics of Christ-likeness. (John 16:7-11; John 3:5-8; 15; 26-27; Ephesians 5:15-21; Galatians 5:22-25)

VI. We believe that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world according to the Scriptures as a representative of mankind and a substitutionary sacrifice for them.  All who believe upon Him are justified on the basis of His shed blood. (2 Corinthians 5:14-21; Romans 3:23-26; 5:8)

VII. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again by the Holy Spirit, and thereby become children of God and heirs of eternal life.  There is no other way for a man to be saved but by the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; John 3:6, 16; Acts 4:12)

VIII. We believe in the blessed hope, personal, imminent and visible return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, eternal joy of the righteous and the endless suffering of the wicked. (1 Thessalonians 4:15; 2 Timothy 4:1; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 20:4-6, 11-15)
